I am really enjoying the American Literature class, I didn't get a chance to take American Literature in High School. I was an average student and did what was required of me. I had heard of Zora Neale Hurston, but had not read any of her stories until this class and I've enjoyed reading them. She was an American folklorist, anthropologist, and author during the time of the Harlem Renaissance. Of Hurston's four novels and more than 50 published short stories, plays, and essays, she is best known for her 1937 novel, "Their Eyes Were Watching God." I read the story in our book, "How It Feels to Be Colored Me."
How many of you have heard of Zora Neale Hurston, and what do you know about her? Have you read any of her stories, if so, which ones? If you have read, "How It Feels to Be Colored Me," what did you think about the story?
I have not read anything by Hurston yet. As soon as I get some extra time, I will have to check her out!
ReplyDeleteI have not read anything by Hurston. I am interested in finding some of her work. I will add her to my list to check out.
ReplyDeleteI have never read Hurston, but you make her sound amazing! I will definitely have to add her to my reading list.
ReplyDeleteI didn't take any sort of American Literature class in high school, either. As far as I know it wasn't even offered where I went. I haven't heard of Hurston until you mentioned her. Have you read her books? Do you like them? I enjoy reading out suggestions other people have, so if you enjoy her I might try reading some of her work. Good luck in class.
